To be eligible for loan of a laptop you must be registered as a full or part-time student in UL and be from one of the target groups identified in the National Access Plan 2022-2028 and provide evidence of socio-economic disadvantage.

Please note there is no guarantee that you will be successful in your application, even if you meet the criteria for this scheme.

UL must be satisfied that a student who receives a laptop under this scheme has demonstrated the financial need for the device to access their programme of study - i.e. that they or their family do not have the means to purchase such a device themselves.

  • Access students (socio-economically disadvantaged students) who have accessed UL through the Higher Education Access Route (HEAR) or the Access to University Course
  • Students registered with a disability at UL or who have accessed UL through DARE and who can demonstrate a financial need
  • Mature students (Undergraduates only) and who can demonstrate a financial need
  • Further Education Award holders - i.e. those who have entered UL via QQI/FET pathways and demonstrate a financial need
  • Students who are lone parents
  • Members of the Traveller and/or Roma communities
  • Students who are or have been in the care of the State
  • Other ethnic minorities, asylum seekers or University of Limerick Sanctuary students domiciled in Ireland

  • Any combination of one or more of the above.

Students (undergraduate or postgraduate) who are transferring to UL from another higher education institution and who were in receipt of a laptop under this scheme will also be prioritised. If you are in this latter category, you must provide a letter from your previous institution confirming that you received a laptop under this scheme and that you have since returned that laptop.

Please note that the Information Technology Department in UL does not support technical issues with these laptops. If you have an issue with your laptop please contact Dell Support, information below.

All laptops are covered for 5 years support by Dell from the date on which they were originally purchased. Therefore all laptops currently in this scheme are still under Dell warranty.
