Laptop Loan Scheme University of Limerick

.The Government Laptop Loan Scheme Application Process has now closed.

Priority for awarding loan of a laptop in 2021/22 will go to first year undergraduate students in the first instance.

Students (undergraduate or postgraduate) who are transferring to UL from another higher education institution and who were in receipt of a laptop under this scheme during 2020/21 will also be prioritised. If you are in this latter category, you must provide a letter from your previous institution confirming that you received a laptop under this scheme in 2020/21 and that you have since returned that laptop.

You must have completed the student registration process with UL in order to access the form.

To be eligible for loan of a laptop you must be registered as a full or part-time student in UL in 2021/22, be from one of the target groups identified in the National Plan for Equity of Access to Higher Education 2015-2019 and provide evidence of socio-economic disadvantage.

Please note that there is no guarantee that you will be successful in your application, even if you meet the criteria for this scheme.

UL must be satisfied that a student who receives a laptop under this scheme has demonstrated the financial need for the device to access their programme of study - i.e. that they or their family do not have the means to purchase such a device themselves.

Applicants must belong to one of the following groups,

  • Access students (socio-economically disadvantaged students) who have accessed UL through the Higher Education Access Route (HEAR) or the Access to University Course
  • Students registered with a disability at UL or who have accessed UL through DARE and who can demonstrate a financial need
  • First-time mature students (Undergraduates only) and who can demonstrate a financial need
  • Further Education Award holders - i.e. those who have entered UL via QQI/FET pathways and demonstrate a financial need
  • Lone parents
  • Members of the Traveller and/or Roma communities
  • Students who are or have been in the care of the State
  • Other ethnic minorities, asylum seekers or University of Limerick Sanctuary students domiciled in Ireland
  • Students who can clearly demonstrate urgent financial need who are not part of another target group listed above
  • Any combination of one or more of the above.

PLEASE NOTE: International students and non-EU fee paying students are NOT eligible under this fund

If you do not meet any of the categories above you may be eligible to apply for the Student Assistance Fund which will open in early October 2021. See:  https://ulsites.ul.ie/access/student-assistance-fund
