The 4 categories of students who may be considering I grades at this time of year

There are four categories of students who may be considering I grade applications at this time of year –

Students registered as normal on taught modules during the summer

Students completing annual repeat assessments to clear deficient grade (F, D1, D2, or NG)

Students completing annual repeat assessments to clear an I grade

Students completing taught masters dissertations modules

For those students in category 1 an I grade at this time of year will provide you access to the next available opportunity the module runs – this is typically summer 2021.  There is no academic penalty and there will be no cost for the link-in repeat during 2021.

For those students in category 2 an I grade at this time of year will typically provide you access to module during semester one or two during AY 20/21.    For those students who were charged a repeat registration fee this will not be refunded.  There is no academic penalty and there will be no additional cost for the link in repeat during AY 20/21.

For those students in category 3 an I grade at this time of year will typically provide you access to module during semester one or two during AY 20/21.  There is no academic penalty and there will be no additional cost for the link in repeat during AY 20/21.

For those students in category 4 an I grade at this time of year may not be required.  The University made a decision to extend the time available for students completing taught masters dissertations by approximately two months.  As such, your course may have an extended submission date – please contact your course director for information on this date.  If you feel you will be able to meet that new submission date then there is no need to apply for an I grade at this point in time.  Your performance will be considered by the University Exam Board in December 2020.  However, If you believe that you will not be able to meet this new deadline due to a valid I grade reason (see below) and wish to undertake and complete your thesis during summer 2021 with a view of submitting circa. September 2021 (exact date available from your Course Director) then an I grade will provide you the ability to access your dissertation module in Summer 2021 with no academic penalty and at no cost.
