What Queries Does The First Year Support Co-Ordinator Deal With?

Hello first years! I am here to help you when something arises that you are not sure how to deal with. I have had almost 800 meetings with first years in the last academic year, there are always things, big and small, that crop up over the course of a year and college is no different.  I will talk you through all the options that you have and help you to decide how best to address and resolve the issue.

Why do students meet with me?

·         Unsure about course choice

·         Struggling academically

·         Internal Transfers/Thinking of leaving

·         Managing my time / getting more out of the experience

·         Balancing work/home/study/friends/hobbies

·         Turning over a new leaf academically and need some help and guidance

·         Financial reasons

·         Homesickness

·         Struggling socially/ making friends

·         Personal issues related to transition to university

·         Administrative Issues

·         Issues related to modules/assignments/results

There will be critical moments for all of you. They may come at different times. Being able to talk to someone who knows how the college works and who can help you decide on a course of action that suits your situation is a useful and practical support service. I will help you to understand the options available to you and how to complete the processes and procedures involved.

When something crops up for you, get in touch and we will work it out.

Many students have money worries and stresses in relation to financial matters.

If you are experiencing financial hardship, please feel free to get in touch with me or with our Chaplain Fr. John Campion john.campion@ul.ie If you are a HEAR student, you should engage with the Access Office Access@ul.ie and ensure you are aware of all the supports available to you.

UL operates both a Student Assistance Fund and a hardship fund. The SAF is a national scheme which is means tested and which students need to meet specific eligibility criteria for. The hardship fund is administered by Fr John Campion from Student Affairs and Jenny Hannon from Student Life studentsupport@ul.ie
