Structuring the PhD Thesis/Masters Dissertation and the Role of the Literature Review

Date/Venue: Thursday June 17th 11am, Microsoft Teams

This workshop is for Masters-level students and PhD candidates who are having difficulty conceptualising the shape of such a large text as is the dissertation or thesis. The workshop attempts to simplify the dissertation/thesis by looking at what it does: argue for an understanding of the nature of things. Each chapter in a dissertation or literature review functions to further that case, including the review of the literature, which both legitimises the rationale for pursuing your research and gives the dissertation/thesis writer what they need in order to make sound decisions about the methods of their inquiry, how to interpret findings and how to evaluate the contribution of the evidence they unearth to those in their field.
