Biography

Michaela Schrage-Früh joined UL as Associate Professor in German Studies in 2023. Prior to this she was a Lecturer in German at the University of Galway (2017-2023), DAAD-Lecturer at UL (2012-2017) and Lecturer in English Literature at the University of Mainz (2001-2012).
In UL she is Director of the Centre for European Studies and Erasmus coordinator for outgoing students.

Her main research interests include gender and ageing studies; cultural, literary, and philosophical dream studies, and German-Irish Studies. She is a founding member of WARN (Women and Ageing Research Network) and a member of the Network of Cultural Dream Studies. In December 2021 she was an invited guest lecturer at the Research Training Group 'European Dream Cultures', University of Saarbrücken. From 2019-2022 she was part of the Irish research team of the ERC-funded project "MASCAGE: Ageing Masculinities in European Cinemas and Literatures" and from 2021-2022 she was PI of the IRC-funded project "Restorying Ageing: Older Women and Life Writing".

Michaela is particularly interested in supervising postgraduate work on any aspect of ageing in literature and culture or on any other aspect related to contemporary German, Anglophone or comparative literature, especially in a European context.
