Following the start-up meeting in January, the first of the monthly ‘Electron Microscopy Forum’ meetings will be held on Thursday, 3rd March at 4pm in MS2-014, MSSI Building extension. As announced these meetings will consist of a ~20 minute presentations by users of SEMs and TEMs, about the research that is carried out in the various groups using electron microscopy techniques, followed by a short (~20 min) talk/tutorial targeting specific EM techniques and how to apply these (including aspects of microscope alignment, software use for driving the EM and data evaluation, imaging techniques and what can be deduced from images -and diffraction patterns-, EBSD measurements and evaluation, image simulations). Researchers will take it in turn to present results and they (and everybody else) are invited to make/address queries; every effort will be made by staff and fellow researchers to answer any questions. Please could supervisors strongly encourage their researchers to attend these meetings, attendance will be required for the use of EM instrumentation
Dr Yina Guo will talk about: ‘ A Look inside the TEM’ (~20 minutes) and Dr Andy Stewart will talk about: ‘Contrast mechanisms in SEM and TEM’ (~20 min). These sessions are intended to engage attendees and encourage questions (of any kind); every effort will be made by staff and fellow researchers to answer these questions.
Supervisors are asked to strongly encourage their researchers to attend these meetings, attendance will be required for the use of EM instrumentation.
