As part of a short series of events looking at relationships between Ireland / the EU and Japan this semester, Prof Bernadette Andreosso-O’Callaghan will give a talk on Japan-EU Economic Relationships from 6pm on Wednesday 20th in S205.
This talk is particularly topical given that Japan and the EU together account for more than a third of the world’s economy and that more than half a million jobs in the EU are connected to exports to Japan. The EU-Japan Free Trade Agreement, which came into force in February, will open up huge opportunities for exports to Japan.
On Wednesday the 27th, H.E. Mari Miyoshi, the Japanese Ambassador, will introduce a documentary film, ‘A Doctor’s Sword’, about an Irish doctor’s experiences during the Pacific War. This will begin at 6pm in S205.
In March, to mark the 50th anniversary of the bequest by Sir Alfred Chester Beatty to the Irish nation of his collection of about 20,000 Islamic and Asian manuscripts, paintings, objects, scrolls, textiles, woodblocks and books, Ms Mary Redfern will come to UL to introduce the Japanese manuscripts and objects in the Chester Beatty Library.
This series is being run with support from the Teaching Board of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics.
