Adjunct Professor of the Centre for Irish-German Studies, Prof Emeritus Eoin Bourke (NUI Galway) will talk about George Clare and his acclaimed autobiography Last Waltz in Vienna. George Clare was born Georg Klaar in Vienna in 1920 to a wealthy and cultured Jewish family. He emigrated to Ireland, his parents perished in a concentration camp. His book won the WH Smith Literary Award, was praised by John le Carré, Graham Greene and others and was translated into six languages. In 2005 George Clare received an Honorary Doctorate from NUI Galway.
