The department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Limerick invites you to a seminar by Dr Ewan Cameron (University of Oxford):
Title: Model emulation for calibration of a stochastic, individual-based simulation of malaria transmission
Abstract: Individual-based simulation models of malaria transmission can greatly inform the strategic planning of interventions at national and sub-national scales, and the design of experiments to test new interventions. However, refining the calibration of these computationally-intensive models, which aim to reproduce both the within-host and population-level effects of exposure-based immunity, is an ongoing challenge. In this talk I will describe recent efforts towards an efficient methodology for calibration of the openMalaria code using contemporary techniques for model emulation and optimisation, including a 'stacked generalisation with Gaussian processes' approach developed in-house at the Malaria Atlas Project to improve out-of-sample prediction for our geostatistical models. I will also endeavour to place this work in context with regard to development of the Spectrum-Malaria intervention planning tool and estimation of case incidence totals for the World Malaria Report.
This seminar will take place on Friday, October 28, at 4pm, in A2-002.
