Title: A Spline-based method for Modelling and Generating Nonhomogeneous Poisson Process Inputs to Simulation Models.
Abstract: Simulation models aim to mimic real-world systems and should therefore be driven by input models that truthfully represent the behaviour of the system of interest. Quantifying the error propagated to the simulation output caused by input modelling has been a popular area of research in recent years. Presented is a spline-based model of the intensity function of a non-homogeneous Poisson process (NHPP)from which arrivals can be simulated. In comparison to two recently developed NHPP input modelling techniques the spline-based method can be shown to recover the underlying intensity of a NHPP with lower bias than the competing methods. This means the input modelling error passed to the simulation output is reduced.
