This year saw the continuation of the highly successful KU Summer Law School at UL, now more than 10 years in operation. Each year, in the month of July, law students at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS spend three weeks in Ireland being taught by US and UL faculty. To date over 100 US law students have visited UL under this programme.

This year, Professor Laura Hines from KU taught Comparative International Civil Procedure. Professor Hines scholarship examines the intersection of procedure and tort law, with a particular focus on aggregate litigation. Hines’s articles have appeared in the George Washington Law Review, Emory Law Journal, Wake Forest Law Review, Indiana Law Journal, and other leading publications. She has consulted or testified as an expert on class certification law in several mass tort class action cases. Before joining KU, Hines was a litigation associate at the Washington, D.C., offices of Arnold & Porter, and clerked for Chief Justice Donald P. Lay of the United States Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit. 

From UL, Ray Friel taught two modules: US Counter Terror Law from an International Perspective and Law, Technology and Social Change.

Week 3 sees the programme move to Dublin, following a visit to the Cliffs of Moher, a weekend in Galway and a medieval banquet in Quinn castle.
