Summer School Visit to Henry Street Garda Station Summer School Visit to Henry Street Garda Station

On Friday the 8th of June students on the Terrorism, Crime & Justice Summer School at the School of Law visited Henry Street Garda station in Limerick city. The students are undertaking an intensive three-week programme on criminal justice, human rights and terrorism. The students learn about stop and search, arrest, the rights of the accused and the criminal justice system. The students were very fortunate to discuss with members of An Garda Siochana what they had learnt in class during their visit to Henry Street Garda Station. Students had the opportunity to learn about the history of An Garda Siochana, the organisation itself, the work of the Gardaí and were also able to see the real world application of what they had studied in class. Lectures at the Summer School are delivered by faculty and researchers at the Centre for Crime, Justice and Victim Studies. The students were accompanied on their trip by Dr Norah Burns of the School of Law, who lectures on the Summer School programme. The students were very grateful to An Garda Siochana for allowing them to visit the station and for the very informative talk and tour. The Terrorism, Crime & Justice Summer School is directed by Dr Susan Leahy and Dr Margaret Fitzgerald O’Reilly.
