On Friday 9th September, School of Law lecturers Dr Susan Leahy and Dr Kathryn O’Sullivan delivered a joint paper in the family law stream of the Society of Legal Scholars Annual Conference in St Catherine’s College, University of Oxford. The paper, entitled ‘Muslim Marriage Recognition in Ireland: Unseen Challenges’, considered the extent to which question-marks may hang over the legal status of Muslim marriages undertaken in the state and the implications for ‘spouses’ whose marriage is not legally recognised.
