Presentation at ‘Surrogacy in Ireland: What You Need to Know’ event

Dr Lydia Bracken was invited to speak at an event organised by Poe Kiely Hogan Lanigan solicitors on Saturday 13 October on the use of surrogacy as a route to parenthood in Ireland. The event was held at Kilashee House Hotel, Naas, Co Kildare. Lydia spoke about research that she has conducted on behalf LGBT Ireland in relation to reform of Irish laws concerning donor-assisted human reproduction (“DAHR”) and surrogacy. Lydia’s presentation discussed some of the main areas of concern for LGBT parents and their children in these areas and proposed amendments to the Children and Family Relationships Act 2015 and the Assisted Human Reproduction Bill 2017 that are required to address those issues and to ensure that the law operates in the best interests of the child. This presentation was based on comparative research conducted by Lydia for her forthcoming monograph on Same-Sex Parenting and the Best Interests Principle, which will be published by Cambridge University Press in 2019.
