Legal Pedagogy Funding


The School of Law is delighted to announce Professor Shane Kilcommins, Dr Eimear Spain and Dr Kathryn O’ Sullivan have successfully obtained National Seminar Series Legal Pedagogy FundingFunding from the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning to hold a one day workshop entitled ‘Legal Pedagogy in Transition’.

Transitions in legal education can be varied and multifaceted: from leaving certificate to undergraduate status, undergraduate to postgraduate, paper rules to clinical experiences, law in books to law in action, ‘talk and chalk’ to technological interaction, modular to programme understandings, university to professional education, and essentialist (‘reasonable man of law’) to more intersectional accounts (feminisms, for example) of legal issues . Reflecting these transitions, this workshop will focus on a number of key themes with

speakers from a range of higher education institutions (UL, UCC, TCD,

UCD, NUIG, Law Society) sharing their experiences on the type and nature of transitions that occur for law students as they progress from the early weeks of their undergraduate education right through to the completion of their professional exams in the Law Society.
