Kate Fleming Memorial Competition

The School of Law and Graduate Entry Medical School hosted  the 2015/16 Kate Fleming Mediation Competition in Medical Law over three hours yesterday evening. Sixteen students from law and medicine came together in inter-disciplinary teams to settle a claim of medical negligence in a  case involving a patient with cauda equina syndrome. Many congratulations to the members of the winning team: Kirsten Delcellier (Medicine); Meghan Feeney (Medicine); Kelly Ahere (Law); and Aileen Fitzmaurice (Law). The standard of the completion was extremely high in this exciting competition, a fact commented on by the judges: Jack Nicholas (Barrister, Mediator and Adjunct Lecturer in the School of Law); Mary Tumelty (a PhD candidate in the area of mediation in medical negligence); and Eimear Spain (Senior Lecturer in Medical Law).  The two best candidates from the School of Law, Aileen Fitzmaurice and Emmet Clarke will represent the Law School in the National Negotiation Competition in Maynooth University on May 19th.

This competition provided a fantastic opportunity for interdisciplinary learning and proved to be an extremely enjoyable event!
