Guest Lecture by State Solicitor for Limerick City Guest Lecture by State Solicitor for Limerick City

On Thursday 22nd November, Mr Pádraig Mawe, State Solicitor for Limerick City, delivered a guest lecture entitled “The Role of the Prosecutor in the Criminal Justice System” to students and staff in the School of Law.

The interactive guest lecture was very informative and outlined the various stages in the prosecution of offences by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), State Solicitors and the prosecuting function of members of An Garda Síochána. The lecture was followed by an informative question and answer session. This was an excellent pedagogical exercise for students linking academic debates on the criminal justice process with the practicalities of the prosecution of offenders. The lecture was very well attended by students and staff from the School of Law who benefited from Mr. Mawe’s expertise and valuable insights into the prosecution process.

The event was organised by Dr Ger Coffey, Course Director of the LLM/MA Human Rights in Criminal Justice and member of the Centre for Crime, Justice & Victim Studies.
