Ellen O'Malley Dunlop

Ellen O’Malley-Dunlop served as CEO for the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre for 10 years. As a result of this role, she has become a highly respected advocate for the rights of victims of sexual violence in this jurisdiction. Ellen was elected as chair of the board of the National Women’s Council of Ireland in 2017. She served as a member of the Board of Gaisce, The President’s Award, for 5 years, and is currently serving as a member of The Legal Aid Board.

Given her wealth of experience within the criminal justice system, particularly in relation to victims’ rights, Ellen has been an excellent addition to our adjunct faculty, particularly the Centre for Crime, Justice, and Victims Studies.

Ellen is a qualified psychotherapist and was a founder member of the MSc masters programme in Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy in Trinity College. She was involved in the design and establishment of this programme, as well as lecturing on the programme for a number of years. She has served as member of the board of the National Women’s Council of Ireland and the Task Force for the Child and Family Agency and she was also the chair of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy. During her time as CEO of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, Ellen gained a wealth of experience in lobbying government, designing and commissioning research studies, and overseeing and publicly presenting national publicity awareness campaigns about sexual violence, such as their highly successful recent #AskConsent campaign. Ellen has also published widely in newspapers about victims’ rights and appears regularly on radio and television broadcasts on this topic.
