Educational Trip to The Hague

On Friday the 11th of May, students on the LL.M./M.A. Human Rights in Criminal Justice and LL.M. General programmes travelled to Den Haag in the Netherlands. The touring party caught the early bus from Amsterdam to visit the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court. While there, students gained access to the Visitors Centre of the International Court of Justice in the morning, wherein an audio and visual presentation of the foundation of the Court, its history and its operational scope was proffered to students. After this, students were able to witness the World Court and enjoy its scenic surroundings. After lunch and a quick tram journey across town, students arrived at the International Criminal Court. After clearing security checks, identical to those at airports, and being provided with visitor security passes, students gained full access the inner surrounds of the Court. While there, students received an informative presentation on the workings of the International Criminal Court. Via Amsterdam, students returned home to Ireland with first-hand knowledge of and interaction with two international courts; there is no doubt that this educational experience will provide fresh impetus and inspiration to students before starting their summer dissertations.
