Conference on Research Methodologies in Law

09.07.2014

The School of Law at the University of Limerick will host a one-day conference on 23 October 2014 at the University Pavilion entitled, ‘Research Methodologies in Law’. The idea for this conference developed from an identified lack of a forum for researchers in the field of law for a discussion of methodologies in relation to their research. The conference aims to address this chasm in that it will be tailored to the needs of researchers through the stimulation of discussion and debate, encouraging an engagement in, and consideration of, the varying methodological approaches in the field.

There will be keynote addresses from two leading experts in the field, Professor Sally Wheeler (QUB) and Professor Fiona Cownie (Keele University). The rest of the day will be dedicated to the examination of five distinct methodological approaches: the doctrinal method; the comparative method; the socio-legal method; the historical method; and theories of rights. Experts in the field will deliver presentations on each of these topics with time for discussion and debate.

The conference will be aimed primary at postgraduate students, but all researchers, are welcome to attend.
