History Studies is the only history journal in Ireland that is edited and managed by postgraduate students and provides a publishing platform for both undergraduate and postgraduate scholars. It is refereed by a panel of distinguished historians and is an established periodical in the field of historical scholarship.
Established in 1999, History Studies has appeared nearly annually since then. Volume 13 (2012) is the first volume to be distributed online in addition to the traditional print edition, since then the Journal has appeared in both print and digital form. This website provides free access to past volumes (see dedicated volume tab), where potential applicants can view the high standard of submissions received every year by History Studies.
In addition, the journal is launched every year in the University of Limerick. Volume 17 was launched on Wednesday 19 April 2017. Details of that launch can be found at http://ahssresearch.wordpress.com/2017/04/26/launch-of-history-studies-journal/

History Studies now invites articles for inclusion in Volume 22 of the journal from undergraduate and postgraduate students. The theme for this year’s issue ‘Pushing the boundaries’ is open to work on all regions, topics and time periods. As the world slowly emerges from an unprecedented global crisis, the editors encourage submissions of papers focusing on people, communities, organisations, movements or moments in history that attempted to affect change. Papers may investigate how people pushed boundaries which broke with old traditions, rebelled, revolutionised, displayed agency and subversiveness or improved the status quo in major or minor ways.
Papers related to the theme should be no more than 5,000 words in length, including footnotes, and should be sent as an email attachment in Word format to the address provided below. This address should also be used for any queries. The format and referencing of all submissions must comply with the Irish Historical Studies’ referencing system. The IHS ‘Rules for Contributors’ can be found here: https://historystudiesjournal.files.wordpress.com/2018/11/rulesforcontribs.pdf
Extended Deadline until: 5 July 2021
