Conceptualisation Study

Dear participant,

We are Drs. Eimear Spain and Timothy D. Ritchie; lecturers in the University of Limerick. We invite you to participate in a study which aims to examine how people conceptualise emotions. This research was approved by the Education and Health Sciences Research Ethics Committee, as project 2012_09_198_EHS. We hope to reveal similarities and differences about how people understand emotions. It is important that we understand how people conceive of emotions, yet this topic has received very little attention outside limited circles.

If you decide to participate, you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire on the topic. The survey will be administered online and will last no longer than ten minutes. We would like you to consent to participate in this study as we believe that you can make an important contribution to the research on a very important topic to us both professionally and personally.

The information gathered from the interviews will be confidential and will not be shared with any other parties. Confidentiality and anonymity will be protected at all times, however, the results of the study may be published or presented at professional meetings, but your identity will not be revealed. Participants have the right to withdraw from the study at any stage.

We encourage anyone who is interested in taking part in the study to read the information leaflet attached to this letter. If you are willing to take part in this study please download and open the attached link and fill in the consent form before proceeding to the online survey.

We will be happy to answer any questions you have about the study. You may contact us at 061 234 896, or via email at or if you have study related questions.

Thank you very much for your time and anticipated participation.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Eimear Spain and Dr. Timothy D. Ritchie
