The University of Limerick fully respects your right to privacy and actively seeks to preserve the privacy rights of those who share information with the University.
Personal information held by the University is treated with the highest standards of security and confidentiality, in accordance with the Data Protection Acts 1988 and 2003.
- The University of Limerick must hold and process students' personal data (including digital photo) in order to fulfil its functions relating to teaching and research and associated administrative duties.
- In this regard, the University may, from time to time, disclose personal data to third parties who provide products or services to the University and/or its students.
- In addition, the type and status of graduate awards are publicly acknowledged at University of Limerick conferring ceremonies and are published in the University's conferring booklet.
- The University has an SMS text messaging system which gives the option to relevant University Offices to communicate with students quickly and comprehensively. As a registered student, you will be automatically added to the list to receive texts regarding University-related information. This may include, for example, if lectures have been cancelled or rescheduled at short notice, reminders related to your examinations, details regarding your library loans & renewals and fees & grants information etc. If you are not interested in receiving text alerts from us, you can opt out of this service in the Student Portal by changing your preferences in your Personal Details page. Regardless of the foregoing, the University will send you an SMS text message in the event of an emergency, where possible.

The Data Protection Acts require that personal information about individuals is kept up-to-date. It is essential therefore that you update your personal details regularly (for example your postal address, mobile phone number). You can update your details via the SI Portal at anytime.
