Dr Tina O’Toole winner of UL Excellence in Teaching Award 2016
We are delighted to announce that Dr Tina O’Toole (School of Culture & Communication) has been selected as overall winner in the University of Limerick Excellence in Teaching Award 2016.
The decision to select Tina O’Toole as the overall award winner is based on a range of indicators that define her as a truly exceptional teacher: The extraordinary rapport, connection and engagement she establishes with her students; the ways in which she creates a supportive but also challenging and rigorous learning environment; her conscientious emphasis on feedback, learning enhancement, impact and on her own professional development as a teacher were all highlighted as outstanding. Perhaps most importantly, Tina has distinguished herself by virtue of her own substantial expertise within her discipline and by pursuing a research-led approach to her teaching that brings her subject alive both within and beyond her classroom contexts.
Huge congratulations to all of those finalists and winners. These teachers are a source of great pride to UL and to our teaching, learning and scholarly missions. Their positive impact on the learning of their students is impossible to measure fully, but clearly there is much to learn from their approaches, and much to be inspired by from their commitment.
As the overall winner, Tina will receive her award during August conferring. In addition all the finalists and faculty winners will be recognised and celebrated at a campus event later this year. We will look forward to applauding and learning from these innovative, engaging and impactful approaches to teaching.
