Coiste na Gaeilge has specific responsibility for the development of action plans and procedures relating to the Irish language at the University of Limerick. It is the primary forum for discussion of issues relating to the position, status and use of Irish on the University campus. It is the body which advises Stiúrthóir na Gaeilge. It advises on the creation and implementation of Irish language policy and on the allocation of resources in accordance with agreed UL policy and HEA guidelines.The UL Official Languages Act Implementation Group is a sub-committee of Coiste na Gaeilge. Coiste na Gaeilge and the Office of Corporate Secretary have responsibility for the monitoring of the provisions of the Official Languages Act, 2003 and the UL Language Schemes 2006-2009 and 2009-2012.
OLA Official Languages Act Implementation group
This is a sub-committee of Coiste na Gaeilge that deals with the implementation of bilingualism, the Official Languages Act 2003 and the UL Language Scheme. All UL administrative areas have representatives on the Implementation Group. Aonad na Gaeilge supports members of the Implementation Group in their efforts to promote an understanding of language skills, language use and language rights on campus. The Implementation Group have prepared detailed translation procedures for the Institution and procedures for dealing with oral and written correspondence in Irish to the University. All UL translation is outsourced to companies outside of the University. Aonad na Gaeilge does not provide translation services to/from Irish.
