Academy for Children

In line with the University’s commitment to community engagement and to widening the participation of underrepresented groups at third level, the Access Office has created an Academy for Children. The goal of the Academy is to encourage and support local primary school children to reach their full potential and begin their journey onto higher education.

The ethos of the Academy is based on a firm belief in partnership, in community and in keeping children at the heart of the decision making process. The role of the Academy is to open doors and expand horizons, to introduce the University to those who do not know it and to inspire future graduates. To bring the University to the community and the community to the University.

Access Office staff will initially work in partnership with a pilot school to create on-campus and in-school programmes for students, teachers and parents. The Academy will then begin working with other local DEIS primary schools. For further details on the Academy contact academyforchildren@ul.ie
