Take 1 Step

Take 1 Step

The Shannon Consortium partners (University of Limerick, Mary Immaculate College and Limerick Institute of Technology)launched in 2016 a sector-wide initiative to stimulate staff and students to ‘Take One Step’ in engaging with digital literacy. The campaign built on the National Framework for Digital Skills (AllAboard). Five “TEL Days” were run in the SC campuses over a 6 week period (February 11th –March 15th). A series of innovation funds were also launched in each institution in order to encourage staff and students to engage in immediate impact ‘lighthouse’ innovations. This video gives an overview of what we have accomplished over the 6 months of the project. Recordings of the events, open educational resources and many useful links are available in the project portal www.t1step.ie.

All Aboard Map

AllAboard is a national project that aims to empower learners, teachers, and anyone who uses technology to support their work, their study, or other aspects of living in a digital age. It has developed a simple way of thinking about digital skills in the form of a Metro Map, promoted the use of ‘digital badges’ and produced and shared lessons and learning materials that anyone can access online (see stations).
TELU participated this year in AllAboard2017, a week-long series of national and regional public events to build confidence in Ireland’s digital skills for learning, co-run by The National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and Ireland’s higher education institutions. A series of resources on digital capacity are currently being curated in this website.

Technology Enhanced Learning for you

TELU.me is an excellent collection of free online micro-learning courses ("Micro-Lessons") designed to help busy educators use technology to support their teaching and learning. The repository is built around real, on-the-ground experiences and case studies from real teachers.

Tools and Technologies for T&L Online (Darina Slattery)

Tools and Techologies

Darina Slattery (Lecturer in E-Learning and Instructional Design at UL) has developed an extensive collection of TEL resources for teaching and learning. The collection includes links to various categories of tools (e.g. tools for blogging, video-editing/ creation, podcasting, polling, presentations/ animations, screen casting, videoconferencing, and collaborative authoring). The collection also includes links to useful guidelines and resources (e.g. grading rubrics for online activities, demos and checklists for e-learning courses, netiquette guidelines, sample e-tivities, and learning object repositories and MOOCs). The collection is updated on a regular basis.

Also, Darina developed an interactive presentation which gives teachers an overview of the different kinds of tools and technologies that are available for teaching and learning online and how they might be used to achieve different learning outcomes. She also developed this OER to answer some of the many questions that teachers ask, when faced with moving on-campus courses or programmes online. This OER was developed through the innovation fund of T1step and is licensed under a Creative Commons license.

Adopting a powerful attitude towards learning (Robert Dalton, UL and Silke Rehman, Univ. of Edinburgh)

Adopting a powerful attitude towards learning

Adopting A Powerful Attitude towards Learning is a short Open Educational Resource (OER) designed to empower you and your students to recognise the impact of your attitude(s) and then consciously choose one that best serves you to enjoy a successful learning journey. This OER was developed through the innovation fund of T1step and is licensed under a Creative Commons license.
