The Healing Power of Chant

Chant Flyer

Tuesday evenings: 7:00 – 8:30 Starting on 22nd September, 2015.
10 Euros or 5 Euros concession  - in UL Contemplative Centre

How do we navigate this fast-paced technological world we live in so that we don’t lose our balance?  Where is our safe haven – that place where we can rest the mind and renew our selves?

Ironically the answers often lie in the past – our ancestors understood the power of sound and the power of singing as a way of self-healing and maintaining emotional balance.   Chant has been a part of the human experience for thousands of years Chanting is one of the most uplifting things we can do and one way to access that inner peace that we all need to sustain us.  .  In this group we will sing sacred chants from Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and indigenous tribal traditions.

Chant is joyous and it’s for everyone – you don’t need to be a ‘good singer’, or subscribe to any particular belief system, you just need to bring a bottle of water, an open heart and be prepared to join in!

Mary Mc Laughlin is an internationally known singer / teacher with a long recording history and many years experience of collecting and teaching chants from different sacred traditions.  She holds an MA in Ritual Chant and Song from UL, a certificate of Vocal Music Teaching from Trinity College, London and a certificate of Sound Healing and Therapy from the Globe Institute, San Francisco.  Having relocated to Ireland after many years living abroad, she is currently pursuing a PhD at the Irish World Music Academy in Otherworld Traditional Song.
