MSSI Research Image Featured On Advanced Materials Back Cover

Monolayer graphene is used as the bottom electrode to fabricate long-lived and high-quality tunnel junctions based on organic self-assembled monolayers (SAMs), as described on page 631 of the current issue of Advanced Materials (January 27th 2016; DOI: 10.1002/adma.201670028). The SAMs are formed on graphene via non-covalent interactions without altering the structure of the graphene. This collaborative work between the groups of Christian Nijhuis at National University of Singapore and Damien Thompson, Departmenet of Physics & Energy at University of Limerick paves the way to new types of molecular electronic junctions based on 2D materials
