Damien Thompson selected as faculty finalist for the UL Excellence in Teaching Award 2016

The UL teaching excellence award process was reviewed in 2015 which involved the identification of finalists from each of the four faculties, the selection of four faculty winners and the identification of an overall institutional winner. MSSI’s  J.J. Leahy, Department of Chemical and Environmental Sciences and Damien Thompson, Department of Physics and Energy were among the faculty finalists selected.   Damien Thompson was the faculty winner from Science and Engineering and in addition was also awarded a special commendation for an exemplary focus on discipline. 

The special commendation for Damien is based on the ways in which he has worked to develop innovative, engaging and effective techniques and strategies to enhance the teaching and learning of quantum mechanics and physics.

Of these finalists, four faculty winners have been identified on the basis of a review of their achievements in five different criteria for excellence in teaching. Each finalist has demonstrated distinguished excellence in and commitment to outstanding teaching within their disciplines:
