Head Start Maths for Mature Students

If you are starting in the University of Limerick in September 2020 but are concerned about your mathematics then help is at hand. The Mathematics Learning Centre at the University of Limerick is running an online “Head-Start” maths course for mature students.

This course is designed to help mature students make a successful transition to third level mathematics by improving/refreshing the basic mathematical skills you will need for your UL programme (e.g. Engineering, Science, Technology, Business). This course will be offered online at the end of August through the start of September 2020. The course is free of charge for incoming UL students. Most of the course will be available 24/7 to participants along with some live online sessions.

Summary of the Head Start course

Head Start Maths Level 1 is recommended for mature students who have not studied mathematics in any formal sense in a long time. It is a revision course on mathematics fundamentals that you will need for any mathematics module you will be required to complete as part of your degree programme.

Head Start Maths Level 2 is recommended for mature students who are about to embark on an engineering, applied physics, mathematics, science or technology based degree programme. It builds upon Level 1 but covers some of the more advanced mathematics required for the degree programmes mentioned above. Students who have a good knowledge base in mathematics may find participation in Level 2 a sufficient foundation for their subsequent mathematical studies!

You are welcome to engage with both Level 1 AND Level 2 on our online platform. All participants will be added to our online Head Start Maths platform where both levels will be available.

If you have any further queries regarding Head Start Maths, don’t hesitate to contact us at the email address above.
