As Head of the School of Law at the University of Limerick, I am delighted to welcome you to our website.
The UL campus is truly one of the most beautiful university campuses anywhere in the world. Visitors never fail to be impressed by this peaceful green place with its trees, fountains, and the beautiful river Shannon flowing majestically through it all. The School of Law prides itself on providing an innovative, enriching, student-centred learning environment for our 700 or so students. Our internationally recognised staff provide excellent tutelage in a friendly, open atmosphere.
The School’s undergraduate programmes (Law Plus, and Law and Accounting) have always been interdisciplinary in nature, and our students undertake a 6 to 8 month pioneering clinical placement as an integral part of their education.
This long and sustained commitment to "law in action" ensures that students get vital clinical experience with prestigious employers. Such clinical experiences contribute to student's educational journey and also greatly enhances their employability. The School of Law has a long tradition of committing to developing student's transferrable skills through projects such as Advanced Lawyering and Moot Court, and through cutting edge core modules such as Alternative Dispute Resolution. Moreover, we have fostered strong international links and students can undertake placements in Canada and the US or spend a full academic year in a European university such as Malta, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, and the Netherlands. We also have links with universities in Germany, France, and Spain where subjects are taught through the native language. We also have a vibrant international student body in the School of Law.
We look forward to meeting you.
Professor Shane Kilcommins
Head, School of Law.
There is an exceptionally high employment rate for students graduating from the School of Law. Law and Accounting students, for example, have an almost perfect 100% employment rate across a 5 year period.
