Dr Pat Phelan graduated from Thomond College of Education, obtained a Master’s Degree in Technology from the University of Limerick and graduated with a PhD from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Wales.
Dr Phelan is the former head of the Department of Manufacturing & Operations Engineering Department (now Department of Design & Manufacturing Technology) and Senior Lecturer in Manufacturing Process Technology. He spent seven years working in industry on mechanical and control systems used in the food, pharmaceutical and metal refining industry in Ireland. He has also held research fellowship with the University of Birmingham and with Lufthansa Technik in Hamburg working on non-destructive testing techniques in the aircraft industry.
Dr Phelan is the Vice President Academic & Registrar (Acting) and Associate Registrar at the University of Limerick and a member of Academic Council. He chairs the Academic Regulations Committee and is a member of the Academic Programme Review Committee. He also has overall responsibility for the External Examiner and Garda Vetting systems at the University.
