International Student Vetting/Police Clearance Requirement
The University of Limerick offers a number of undergraduate and taught postgraduate educational and training programmes that require students to undertake placements, with external agencies, which may bring them into contact with children and vulnerable adults and to assume positions of trust. To ensure the protection of the public and justify public trust and confidence, the University is committed to ensuring that only suitable candidates are allowed to undertake these programmes. In accordance with the National Vetting Bureau (Children & Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012-2016 and with UL’s Student Vetting Policy (https://ulsites.ul.ie/executive/student-vetting ), there is a statutory requirement for all students on programmes that include such placements to be vetted. As the programme you have applied for is one of these programmes, you should now:
Fill out the UL Photographic Identity Certification Form (2) and get this form certified by showing your Passport, Driving License (credit card size) or National ID Card to one of the following: An Garda Siochana/a solicitor/a secondary school headmaster/UL Department administrator.
Submit an original Police Clearance Certificate/Criminal History Check from every country you have lived in for more than six months since over the age of 16 years. (The document can be returned to you later if you request us to do so).
If you are under 18 years of age, you will need to request a Parent/Guardian Consent Form (NVB 3), to be completed by your parent/guardian and returned to Student Vetting, UL.
Once on campus, you may be required to sign a sworn affidavit in the presence of a Commissioner of Oaths during Orientation Week. If so, please bring your passport.
International Police Clearance Certification should check for criminality and, where possible, to clear you to work with children and vulnerable adults. It is imperative that no false information be given. Please apply for this certification as soon as possible as it can be a lengthy process.
Please keep a copy of all requested documents for yourself and submit original documents only by registered mail to: Student Vetting, Plassey House, University of Limerick, Limerick, Ireland, prior to Orientation. Applicants who receive their Programme Offer Letter within two weeks of start of programme should present documents at Student Vetting session held during Orientation Week.
UL will process your Vetting Invitation through the National Vetting Bureau who will send you an email link to complete the full Vetting Application Form online. Full details of any convictions or criminal prosecutions (past or pending) must be included. It is imperative that no false information is furnished. Failure to do so may result in you not being allowed to undertake your practice placement. This online application should be completed immediately.
When you have been vetted, your Course Director will be informed.
Please note that your registration will not be complete until the UL student vetting process has been completed. Further details on the UL student vetting process for international students can be found at the UL Student Vetting webpage.
